Artfully Sent Cards

   Hey everyone! I have some more artwork to share with you today! I am hoping that I can make more time to get creative this last month of pregnancy, and maybe even start our little bundle's scrapbook to get ahead! We'll see, though! We still have a lot to do to prepare for our little man's arrival!

   Today I am sharing some cards that I made last month using the Artfully Sent Cricut cartridge. I have had a lot of fun playing with this cartridge lately, and I have also had a lot of greeting cards that needed to be sent out the last couple months! So here are a couple of the cards that I made and sent:

This one you might have seen already on my blog and/or other social media! I made this card using Blossom papers, matching cardstock, and the "Variety of Thanks" hostess stamp set from the Seasonal Expressions I idea book.

I made this Mother's Day card for my Grandma and mother-in-law last month. It was very quick and easy to put together, and I loved that I could make a matching envelope liner as well! The papers I used were scrap papers from my stash!

I recently purchased a paper pack from Michaels that had watercolor, ombre-style pattern papers in it! I love the possibility of this paper pack and knew I had to use it with some of the gorgeous cards from Artfully Sent! This card is a pocket-style card that I cut from black shimmer paper. I then backed the image with the ombre paper, and tucked a journaling card in the pocket to act as my "letter". The size was perfect for 4x6 photos, so I included recent photos of my nephew in the pocket, too, before sending it to my sister for Mother's Day.

Here's another version of the same card with different colors behind it! I sent this card with recent pictures of my niece to my other sister for Mother's Day. I used the left over scraps from the paper to make the envelope liner, and my ShinHan markers to color the sparkles to match the card!

I made 3 versions of this card since I had so many anniversaries to acknowledge last month. I used up scrap papers from my stash, and scraplifted the design from CTMH corporate.  I love the simple elegance of this card, and the fun combination of pattern papers that I used!

This card was quick and easy to make, but also the perfect card to send to my nephew for his birthday! I used a "Boyhood" paper pack that I have from DCWV to back the letters I then added black star stickers to the front to give it just a little added interest.

This is the inside of the card to my nephew. He really like pirates, so I had to include this fun paper in his card and as the envelope liner. The sentiment came from a Hero Arts stamp set I have in my stash!

   I hope you all enjoyed viewing these fun greeting cards! These were super fast and easy to put together, too! I made 8 cards in one sitting in less than a couple hours! It was also a great way to use up my scrap papers, and break out some new supplies! Plus the Artfully Sent cartridge makes it super easy to come up with stylish and trendy cards in just minutes!

Tuesday Tidbit: Making Ephemera

   Happy Cinco de Mayo to you all! I hope you are enjoying the start of this beautiful Spring month! The weather has been gorgeous up here in Minnesota, but we could use some rain really soon!

   Anyone get a start on their projects this past weekend to celebrate National Scrapbooking Month? I was traveling back from New Orleans this weekend so I didn't get a chance to play yet, but hopefully later today!

   I have a fun Tuesday Tidbit for you today! Today I want to share with you an easy and effective way to use stickers as embellishments on your layouts. I love all the super cute stickers that are on the market! Especially the sticker complements that CTMH has with each of their paper packs. Unfortunately, though, once you stick one down they are difficult to move, change, or layer afterward!

   I want to share with you something that I do when I want to use up some of my complementing stickers! I turn all my stickers into ephemera to make it easier to position them on my project and make it easier to decide how to use them as embellishments! Here's how I make sticker ephemera:

1.) Gather Supplies: Sticker sheets, baby powder, splat mat, and baby wipes!

All the supplies you need for this quick tip!

2.) Pour a small amount of baby powder on your splat mat, and use your finger to apply the baby powder to the back of your stickers.

It can be messy, but it's so fast and easy to do!

3.) Make sure the back of the sticker is completely covered in baby powder so that the sticker loses its "stick" completely.

4.) Do this to all the stickers in the complements set. Then store them in a baggie or their original packaging until you're ready to use them!

All of these Blossom stickers have baby powder on the back. They still have a little tack to them, but just enough to keep them stored on these sheets until I'm ready to use them!

5.) When you're ready to add the ephemera to your project, layer them and place them where you want them. Then add adhesive (I use the CTMH glue pen) or foam tape to the back of the ephemera piece and adhere!

   I do this to all my complement stickers when I receive them with my paper packs! It makes it much easier to project plan and embellish without the commitment of leaving them super sticky! Plus it doesn't take long, and cleans up super easy, too!

Here's my stack of Wanderful ephemera made after unsticking all the stickers from the sheets! It's all ready for layering and embellishing without the hassle of a permanent stick!

   With really sticky stickers, sometimes they will still have a little "stick" to them even after the baby powder is applied. I put these back on the sticker sheets to keep them in place and prevent them from sticking to each other later. You could also use wax paper to help the ephemera from sticking to each other, too!

Day 3: Wrapping Paper Solutions

    Sorry I didn't get a chance to keep up on my posts these last few days, friends. It has been a run-around, crazy mess in the McQuistan household. Ian was working nights this last week, and it has been a really tough week. He barely had any sleep, was called in to work in the middle of the night a few times, had super sick patients, and was helping battle the atrocious Flu season we have entered.

    I have been up a lot more this week, too, with his night calls. So I have been tired and groggy all this week as well (but not quite in the same way that Ian is I'm sure!!).  I also had a dentist appointment and needed to get some packages together so I could mail them out before the weekend. I needed to take some time to pick up and clean our house a little bit (it was starting to look like a tornado in here). So yeah....I put off the blogging and crafting, and worked on family stuff for awhile.

   We also went to Iowa this last weekend to visit friends and family before Christmas and to attend a family party. This week we need to finish up some last minute shopping, wrapping, and other little things before we head to Wisconsin for my family Christmas. So it's definitely crazy busy!

    So today I'm actually showing you Day 3 of our 12 days of a CTMH Christmas. It's funny because I was going to do this whole feature on creating your own wrapping paper and personalized gift bags, and then last week CTMH posted a similar idea on their blog! So I'm going to feature the same thing today!

    I love the look of personalized gift decor! It's so much fun to make and decorate, and it helps me use up my stash! Plus it really doesn't take long to make, and gives me a reason to get crafty!

A fellow consultant had these CTMH Burlap bags on her blog. They were decorated using the Christmas mini stamps, twine, mini clothespins, and the retired Sparkle & Shine fabric set! I love how cute these little bags are!

Decorate some of CTMH's burlap bags with ribbon, a tag, and some embellishments! These bags are perfect in stockings, for teacher gifts, and for those odd shaped small items that you want to stash away on Christmas Day!

Here are a couple examples of paper gift bags I bought from the Dollar Store and decorated with simple Cricut cuts and embellishments! I love how these turned out, and they were so simple to put together!

    I also love using Christmas scrapbook paper to make envelopes for my Christmas cards. It's a great way to use up my stash, and to personalize my cards just a little bit more! This is how I do it:

1.) I measure my card that I need an envelop for. This one is almost 5"x7". I then use WRMK Envelope Punch Board to figure out how much paper I need and at what size.

2.) According to the Punch Board, I needed a piece of paper 9 1/2" x 9 1/2". I use pattern paper that is printed on one side and white on the other.

3.) I flip the pattern paper over and score the white side of the paper according to the board instructions.

4.) This is what the scored piece looks like notched and scored.

5.) I then round the corners of my scored piece. There is a corner rounder on the punch board, but mine needs some oil and sharpening. So I chose to use my CTMH rounder which allows me to punch through a couple sheets at a time.

6.) I fold the paper along the scored lines with the pattern on the inside of the envelope.

7.) Last, I run a couple lines of permanent adhesive on either side of the inside flaps, and glue my envelope together. Now I have a fun Christmas envelope to match my homemade Christmas cards! It's super easy to do and doesn't take much time at all! I love it!

    The possibilities are endless! Plus it's a great way to get creative during the hustle and bustle this holiday season! Rediscover Event: Minneapolis

   Yesterday I attended my very first CTMH event since becoming a consultant last fall! CTMH Corporate has been traveling to different parts of the US and Canada to hold regional events called "Rediscover" these last few months, and I was able to go to the one they held in Bloomington last night!

    I cannot even explain how excited I was to attend this event! I love this company, the products, and the team that I'm on. So I was excited to learn about more of the changes coming up, CTMH Convention this summer, and much more! Believe me.....it did not disappoint! What an amazing company!

    Monica Wihongi was our corporate representative, and she was fantastic! She shared so much with us (both personal and business), and was so approachable and sincere! It was really refreshing!

    We talked about some of the changes that CTMH is making this year (new Idea Books this Fall!!!), retiring products, and new products! Plus we had a creative session where we had some hands-on experience with some awesome new products (more on this later)! Here are a couple things I can share with you from last night's presentation:

New Albums: 

     The new albums are being shipped as we speak! I was able to view and handle the D-ring albums last night at the event, and they are really nice! The fabric is beautiful and adds such a wonderful finishing touch! The D-ring albums should be available for order in the next 2 weeks, and the post bound albums should be available for order by the end of May! One of the reasons there is still a delay is that once corporate receives the albums they do a quality control check, manufacturing check, and overall "standards" check to make sure that the products we are buying are absolutely Close to My Heart quality products!

    The albums we have in the Idea Book now are officially retiring and are available while supplies last. The Black Faux Leather Album (Z1345) is officially sold out and so is the Work-in Progress Chocolate Album (Z1348). Currently we still have Faux Leather Albums in the following colors: Dark Chocolate (Z1342), Hollyhock (Z1344), Outdoor Denim (Z1346), and Dark Cranberry (Z1343). The main reason for retiring these albums is that we have more than a year worth of inventory in our warehouse of these albums. They have not been selling, and the quality has not been performing like CTMH would like. In order to continue to give you and me (our awesome customers) quality products, we needed to change the albums and release a better, higher quality album! So that is what's happening now! It's super exciting! I liked our Faux Leather Albums, but these newer albums are definitely a better quality album and very sturdy! I cannot wait to get my hands on one! 

Markers: 

 

    We are also in the process of retiring our Exclusive Inks: Alcohol Markers. The main reason for this change is the quality control of the markers. We have had manufacturing issues getting the markers to be the quality of marker that CTMH would stand behind as a core product. I love alcohol markers, but ours have not performed in quite the same way as we were hoping. So in order to better serve you and I, CTMH is going to be using a third party provider for our markers in the new Idea Book (releasing August 2014)! This was a hard choice because we no longer can "brand" the markers as ours, but, as Monica said, branding is not everything; making sure that CTMH customers get a quality product for their money is most important!
    

Creative Session:

    I absolutely LOVED our creative session last night! It gave me some amazing ideas for upcoming Workshop Wednesdays, and for new product use in the future! We were able to make a Base & Bling necklace of our choice (using the buffet style like I had at my Workshop at the beginning of the month!!), and we received an entire Hip Pics album kit to make a super cute summer album!

    Did I mention that I attended this Regional Event for only $30!?!?! I received over $80 worth of products during the creative session, and that's without winning anything! They were also giving away exclusive stamp sets and one page exclusive layouts! I'm back!

Good Afternoon, lovelies!

   Sorry it has taken me so long to get this post up on the blog! I really thought I was going to have time to work on it when I was in Florida on vacation! Sillly me.....what was I thinking!?!? We came back a little early to try and beat the crazy weather that is happening up here today! Good thing, too, because it looks like there are tornados and thunderstorms in Nashville, Southern Indiana, and Southern Illinois, and then nasty wintery mix in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Southern Minnesota! So our drive could have been miserable had to left yesterday like we originally planned!

   We had a wonderful time in Florida with our family! Disney was a blast, as always, and I made sure to enjoy some relaxing and poolside sunshine as well! It was very hard to leave the warm sunshine to come back to another Polar vortex!

   It feels good to be back, though, and I'm excited to finish working on upcoming projects for March's workshops and classes! I think you are going to love all the fun and exciting things I have coming up! First, though, I need to finish getting ready for this Saturday's "Scrap Your Stash" all day crop! I cannot wait for a full day of crafting with some awesome ladies! This is a FREE all day crop at my house with uninterrupted crafting time to complete your projects and work on your albums! I will have challenges and prizes throughout the day to help spark inspiration, and I will also have a lot of CTMH artwork and new products on display! It's going to be a ton of fun!

   All of the spots are filled for this first all day crop, but I am taking RSVPs for the next "Scrap Your Stash" on April 26th! Make sure and sign up early to save your spot! These all day events fill up very fast, and seats are extremely limited!

October in Review!

   Well....I am still playing catch up! However, I am so close to being all caught up (and even AHEAD of the game) that I had to share these fun pictures with you all tonight!

   I was terrible about getting workshop and class project pictures up ahead of schedule for October, but you get to see them now! :) Better late than never, right? Here are a couple goodies from October's Workshop Wednesday (on the 2nd) which was a special preview party featuring the "Holidays from the Heart" gift guide! We made Christmas tags using some of the new stamp sets from the gift guide as well as some other stamp sets from the Fall/Winter 2013 Idea Book!

Chalkboard paper tag cut out using the CTMH's Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. Then I heat set some clear embossing powder on the snowflake image, and stamped the "Holly Jolly" stamp in White Daisy pigment ink (stamps are from the WOG: Frosted Cardmaking Kit stamp set). I added some more "chalk" effect over the snowflake using a tiny bit of White Daisy ink on a stencil brush, and finished it with some red glitter gel!

Chalkboard paper tag cut out using the CTMH's Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. I first brushed White Daisy pigment ink over the background to give a chalk-like look. Then I stamped the tree (from one of the Cricut Art Philosophy stamp sets) in Olive. The watercolor effect was natural (and a surprise!) since it was dye ink over dried pigment ink (smooth surface), so the ink pooled itself and turned out pretty cool! Then I used gold embossing powder and heat set the "Peace & Joy" phrase from the WOG: Frosted Cardmaking Kit stamp set.

I first applied snowflake embellishments that I had in my stash (low tac) then I sprayed Mister Huey's Blizzard ink over top. Before allowing that to dry I quickly spritzed Mister Huey's Calico White over everything! The result was a pooling "blizzard". I heat set it (to dry faster) before removing the snowflakes.

Colonial white paper tag cut out using the CTMH's Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. I stamped the mini "Santa's Greeting" stamp in Black ink then colored it in using CTMH's alcohol markers in Olive. Next, I covered the colored olive greeting with Liquid glass to give it an epoxy look! Lastly, I distressed the edges of the card in Chocolate ink.

White Daisy paper tag cut out using the CTMH's Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. I used the "Love Life" stamp set for the flourish and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. I used used a sponge wedge to add Twilight ink over top of the whole tag, and finished it by distressing the edges in Slate ink.

Then I stamped the bottom of the tag with the "Celebrate" phrase from the WOG: Sparkle & Shine Scrapbooking Kit stamp set in Black ink. Next, I used the Sparkle & Shine Ruby washi tape in the middle and then wrote a "To" and "From" at the top. Lastly, I added some Cranberry Baker's Twine in a bow!

Colonial White paper tag cut out using the  CTMH's Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. I first stamped the bottom of the tag with the banner image from the "Banner Wishes" stamp set in Lagoon ink. Then I stamped the "Thank you" (from the same stamp set) in Slate ink. Next, I layered the Metallic Silver washi tape and the Honey triangles washi tape toward the top. Lastly, I distressed the edges with Chocolate ink.

Kraft cardstock tag cut out using the  CTMH's Artiste Cricut Cartridge. I first layered the Sparkle & Shine washi tape from the bottom up. Then I wrote a "To" and "From" and added a Cranberry Baker's twine bow at the very top!

I first stamped the background of the tag with the mini snowflakes background stamp from the WOG: Frosted Cardmaking Kit stamp set in Ruby. Then I used a 1 1/4" circle punch on the Sparkle & Shine polka dot paper, and distressed the edges in Slate ink. Next, I stamped the "25" image from the "Magical Days" stamp set in Ruby ink and did some fussy cutting around the edges. Lastly, I distressed the edges of the tag in Chocolate ink.

   The next event I had in October was a Fall Decor Class (on the 19th)! During this class, attendees were able to choose a Halloween theme or a Fall theme for their Home Decor projects! We made paper pumpkins and matching stamped, drawstring Burlap or Canvas bags! Check out a couple examples of our projects below!

Fall paper pumpkins cut from the Huntington paper pack using CTMH's Artiste Cricut Cartridge. I cut 6 pieces at 5" and 6 pieces at 3" then glued them using the back-to-back method for stability (and a more full look). I distressed the edges with Chocolate ink, and cut 1.5" and 2"  leaves out of Olive paper using CTMH's Artbooking Cricut Cartridge. I then stamped the smaller leaves with the flourish stamp from the "Swirls Around" stamp set, and covered the bigger leaves with an orange stripe paper from K&Company. Lastly, I used my CTMH quilling tool to curl and round strips of olive and chocolate paper into vine-like strips!

CTMH's Burlap bag with a Colonial tag die cut using CTMH's Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge. "Happy Autumn" stamp set used for the sentiment and the flowers/leaves. Stamped images are in Chocolate, Autumn Terracotta, Slate, Barn Red, Creme Brulee, Olive (1st and 2nd generation), and Garden Green (retired color) dye inks. I used CTMH's blending brush to add contrasting colors to some of my flower petals, and then I fussy cut the images out and used Zip Dry wet adhesive to adhere them to the bag. Last, I adhereed a grey Baker's twine bow to the tag! Thank you to Heather Morgen for the inspiration on this project! I loved how yours turned out so much that I decided to something similar!

   The last event I had in October was Croptoberfest, which was last Saturday! I had two ladies (good friends of mine) that came over for a whole day of cropping and crafting! We had a lot of fun, played with some new products, and got a lot of crafting accomplished! Here are a couple pictures from Saturday!

The ladies received a special Croptoberfest goodie bag for coming all day! The goodie bag was filled with Close to My Heart products like a Halloween paper pack, rub-ons, alphabet stickers, a stamp set, and sparkle gems (Retail Value: $50!)!! Thank you, ladies, for such a fun day!
